Antoinette Kalaj (born September 20, 1986) is an Albanian actress, who is best known for her appearance in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, as a mermaid. In addition to acting, she works as a model as well. She currently resides in Los Angeles, California and graduated from Troy-Athens High School, near Detroit, Michigan.
Her parents, of Albanian descent, migrated from Montenegro to New York when she was born. From there, the family moved to Troy, Michigan when she was 10 so that her father, a construction worker, could find work, as both New York and Michigan have sizable Albanian populations. Kalaj began her career as a model at age 17 after a model scout approached her, and strongly suggested she attend an upcoming model search. Says Kalaj, “We surprisingly came away with literally dozens of agencies that were interested in me.”
Antoinette married at age 18 and had a daughter at 20. As a result, she decided to take four years off from her career. Kalaj went into acting, after the 2008 Michigan film incentives started drawing more productions to the state. Antoinette is quoted as saying, “I’ve always wanted to be an actress, but unfortunately, living in Michigan at that time, I didn’t really think it was possible to realize that dream until the film incentives were passed and I saw the opportunity to work on some major movie sets. After my first moment of being on set, I knew deep down that this is the avenue I wanted to pursue with my life.” Kalaj is currently lined up for the lead role in CGI action film Star 23, written by her cousin and fellow Detroit resident Stevie Robinson. She will be playing a time-traveling scientist trying to save the world from nuclear devastation.
Kalaj made news in 2011, when Philadelphia Phillies outfielder John Mayberry Jr. had his agent at Creative Artists Agency, contact her agency at Innovative Artists in an effort to set up a date between the two. The New York Post was able to obtain the email correspondence, where it was quickly circulated around the internet. The topic was a subject of internet mocking due to Mayberry’s agent being conspicuously reluctant to play matchmaker, as well as Mayberry being ignorant to the fact that Kalaj was married with a daughter.

Why we think she’s hot:
As of 2012, even though she’s been in only seven films or television shows; four of them uncredited, one for less than five seconds, another a TV one-shot, and the last one a low budget (albeit decent) horror movie you’ve never heard of, that despite those odds, Kalaj is so sumptuous, that she’s been listed a total of 37 times on ‘fan’s choice’ IMDB hot lists. That’s a great deal of attention, for a girl who, on paper… shouldn’t be getting any attention. For us, even if she is married, from that state up north, or getting less than memorable roles, with that body, natural beauty and come-hither stare, believe us, she’s firmly on our radar.
