Miranda Taylor Cosgrove (born May 14, 1993) is an American actress and singer-songwriter, best known for her role as Carly on the Nickelodeon television series iCarly. Cosgrove was born in Los Angeles, to Tom and Chris. In September of 2011, Cosgrove was listed in the 2012 Guinness Book Of World Records as the Highest Paid Child Actress, for earning $180,000 per episode of iCarly.
At the age of three, she was discovered by a talent agent while singing and dancing at the Los Angeles restaurant, Taste of L.A. After choosing to take the offer, she appeared in television commercials for McDonald’s, Mello Yello, and also modeled. At the age of seven, Cosgrove began auditioning for theater and television roles. Her film debut was in 2003, as Summer Hathaway in School of Rock. Cosgrove appeared in a number of minor television roles for several years before coming to prominence on the Nickelodeon TV series Drake & Josh. A few years later, Cosgrove landed the lead role on iCarly.
In 2010, Cosgrove signed with Neutrogena skin care and cosmetics as an ambassador. Her 2010 album, Sparks Fly, debuted and peaked at number 8 on the US Billboard 200 chart. Cosgrove’s 2011 song, titled “Dancing Crazy”, was co-written by Avril Lavigne. With three weeks of airplay, the song debuted at number 40 on the US Billboard Adult Pop Songs. Sometimes watching someone grow up on TV, no matter how beautiful they may be, makes it a bit difficult to feel comfortable using adjectives like ‘hot’ and ‘sexy’, when they do reach adulthood.
