Vanessa Joy Lachey (born Vanessa Joy Minnillo November 9, 1980) is an American television personality, television host, model, and actress. A former Miss Teen USA, she has been a New York-based correspondent for Entertainment Tonight and a host of Total Request Live on MTV. Minnillo was born at Clark Air Base in Angeles City, Pampanga, Philippines. Her father was a member of the U.S. Air Force, stationed in the Philippines at the time and is an American of Italian and Irish descent. Her mother, the former Helen Bercero, is a Filipina from the province of Pampanga on the island of Luzon. Minnillo has an adopted brother, Vincent who is two years older than her.
As a child, Minnillo’s family moved frequently because of her father’s service in the Air Force. She lived in Washington, California, Nevada, Florida, Germany and Japan and attended eight different schools in nine years. Minnillo’s parents separated in 1983 and divorced in 1986. After her mother’s remarriage, Minnillo and her brother moved to Turkey with their mother and new stepfather. By 1990, in the wake of Operation Desert Shield, Minnillo and her brother returned to their father’s home, eventually settling in Charleston, South Carolina, where Vanessa Minnillo attended the Roman Catholic Bishop England High School and was a cheerleader. From then on, she lived with her father and his second wife, Donna. She also attended Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic School, located in San Bernardino, California, for one year.
Minnillo was crowned Miss South Carolina Teen USA and went on to win the title Miss Teen USA in 1998, the first Miss Teen USA from South Carolina and also the first from South Carolina to be named the pageant’s Miss Congeniality. Minnillo was a finalist in E!’s competition to replace Brooke Burke as host of Wild On. Minnillo was featured in print and web-based advertising for BONGO Jeans’ Spring/Summer 2007 collection. She has been spokeswoman for Flirt! Cosmetics, a line she helped create which debuted in August 2007, in Kohl’s department stores. Minnillo has appeared in television series including That’s Life, City Girls, The Bold and The Beautiful, Psych and Maybe It’s Me. In 2008, she played Ashlee in an episode of How I Met Your Mother. In 2011, she guest starred on 30 Rock as Carmen Chao. Minnillo later guest starred on the new series of Hawaii Five-0 with then fiancee Nick Lachey.
After meeting Nick Lachey and starring in his music video What’s Left Of Me, the pair dated for nearly three years. Minnillo’s publicist confirmed the couple’s split in June 2009. In the fall of 2009 it was announced they had reconciled. In November 2010, they announced their engagement. They were married July 15, 2011, on Sir Richard Branson’s private Necker Island in the British Virgin Islands, with an intimate party of 35 close friends and family. For someone who is barely thirty years old, Vanessa Minnillo sure has lived in a lot of different places- The Phillipines, Germany, Japan, Turkey, California, Washington, Nevada, Florida, New York, and South Carolina. In fact, it was in South Carolina where she not only won her 1998 Miss Teen USA crown, but also where, as a cheerleader, she attended Roman Catholic Bishop England High School. We mention this otherwise insignificant detail, only for the mere fact that Minnillo, as the subject of what is perhaps Maxim Magazine’s most famous photo shoot of all time, where Vanessa was portrayed in the spread wearing, you guessed it- Catholic Shoolgirl attire.
